Get your ITIN without mailing your original passport to the IRS
An ITIN is the number the IRS gives to people who are not eligible for a Social Security number but need to file taxes in the United States. With an ITIN you can file your taxes, register your business, get an EIN, and open a business bank account.
At Caribbean Business Solutions we handle the whole process with you — and as an IRS Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA), we certify your documents in person: your originals stay with you.

Without a CAA:
to request an ITIN, the IRS requires you to mail your original documents — your passport is gone for weeks, with the risk of it being lost.
With us:
Estefany Castillo is an IRS Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA). That means the IRS authorizes her to review and certify your documents in person. Your originals don't travel, can't get lost, and you take them home the same day.
Who needs an ITIN?
- You are not eligible for a Social Security number and you must file taxes in the U.S.
- You want to register a business and need an ITIN to move forward with your EIN and your business bank account.
- Your spouse or dependents will be on your tax return and they don't have a Social Security number.
Not sure if you need one? Call us — we'll explain it clearly, with no obligation.
How the process works
- 1
We talk with you. We review your situation and tell you exactly which documents to bring.
- 2
You bring your documents. The most common is a valid passport; the IRS accepts other documents too, and we'll tell you which ones apply in your case.
- 3
We certify your documents in person. As a CAA, we verify your originals and certify the copies — your documents stay with you.
- 4
We prepare and send everything. We complete Form W-7 (the ITIN application) and, in most cases, send it together with your tax return, as the IRS requires. We'll let you know when your ITIN arrives.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the IRS take to issue my ITIN?
+
Usually 7 to 11 weeks after the IRS receives the application. We prepare everything correctly from the start so it isn't delayed by errors.
Does an ITIN let me work in the U.S.?
+
No. An ITIN is for taxes only: it is not a work permit and it does not change your immigration status. It lets you comply with the IRS and handle things like registering your business and opening your business bank account.
Does an ITIN expire?
+
Yes, it can expire if it isn't used on a tax return for 3 years in a row. If yours expired, we can help you renew it.
Do I have to leave my passport with you or mail it to the IRS?
+
No. That's the advantage of using a CAA: we certify your passport in person and you take it home the same day. Your originals never go in the mail.
